Heavy metal, the very first metal genre, most metal fans associate it with Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath and Van Halen, but erm… Namibia? That’s right, Namibia. Submission are one of two metal bands from the African country of Namibia, becoming a forerunner of the Namibian metal scene, which when you hear their music, your thinking, how the hell did Metal Hammer miss this one. Here two releases will be put into one review, their debut EP ‘I Mortal’ released in 2008 and their debut album ‘Blind Sighted’ released in 2009. Take Iron Maiden, change their accent to Dutch Afrikaans and change the nationality to Namibian, you get the idea. Pounding riffage with beat-perfect drumming, and down to earth vocals. Coming from the continent with the second least amount of metal scenes (Australasia has the fewest), this heavy metal band draw your attention from the wildlife safari and add a few lions to their power, with the attacking force of lions, the agility of a leopard, the majestic stature of the rhino and a heart of true Namibians, Submission prove that there are other metal scenes other than that of South Africa (there is actually Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, DRC, Botswana, Namibia, Tanzania, Mozambique, Seychelles, and Madagascar). Africa has a metal scene that many metal fans don’t pay attention to, shame due to the amount of talent laying there, Submission will change that, watch this space.
