Antiadore is the 10th full length album of the German gothic rock band Lacrimas Profundere. Originally more of doom/gothic metal band, Lacrimas Profundere have found their catchy formula of gothic rock over the last decade, and perfected their recipe.
Lacrimas Profundere bring gothic rock that balances heaviness (that might attract some metal fans) with the typical gothic lyrics (trying not to become too emo). It's a thin zone in which the balance of these two elements can work together, and therefore the possibilities for variation in the music are limited.
Even though all tracks borrow from the same formula over and over again, the resulting album Antiadore is an enjoyable piece of gothic rock. Nothing new in here, but catchy, poppy gothic rock similar to To Die For and H.I.M.
The tracks on Antiadore go from uplifting (as much as that is possible in gothic rock) to deeply sombre and suicidal. This balance keep the album interesting, given the confined space in which Lacrimas Profundere find themselves.
All elements of standard gothic rock are honored by Lacrimas Profundere, including the baritone vocals and the heavy synth chords.
Two tracks that are the highlights of Antiadore are “Dead to Me” and “Deny for Now”, and the final track “A Sigh” seems to be something that could have been left off the album. “Dead to Me” is a relatively short track (3:32 minutes), with keyboard lines to are similar to recent Nightwish and a catchy chorus, combined with a heavier use of the guitars.
In the same gallery of very catchy, “Deny for Now” is taking its place: going from the parlando vocals on the verse, and then the pumping chorus that invites you to sing along, or go rock out on your local graveyard.
To conclude: Antiadore by Lacrimas Profundere is a safe bet for all those who like accessible gothic rock, without any experimentation or excursions to other genres.
