ARTIST: Tor Lundvall
This brief sampler is a preview for an upcoming boxed set containing reissues of Tor Lundvall's first four albums, collectively representing a musical exploration of the four seasons. Featuring alternate versions and B-sides from the albums, the EP sandwiches two of Lundvall's lyrical pieces between two of his instrumentals. "Whir (Mix #2)" begins things with sustain-drenched piano keys drifting together in gentle washes. "29" adds a touch more pop sensibility, with Lundvall's gentle voice drifting in and out of lonely ambient guitar and more slow pianos, while "The Backyard," presented here in its original version, adds a fuller, warmer sound, though it's still quite tranquil and relaxed. Finishing things up is "November's Fields," a minimalist soundscape of cool bell-like tones and calling seabirds. Since signing with Strange Fortune, Lundvall has been enjoying a lot of well-deserved attention for his majestic "ghost ambient" albums, and the forthcoming reissues of his early catalogue will surely capitalize on that. Since this EP comes free with orders from Strange Fortune, why not pick up Lundvall's two most recent albums and bone up on his work before the boxed set drops?
