Mastered by Intrendent

Very little is known about JÄGER 90 (and we are not talking Jaegermeister here that is something totally different) apart from that they are a German electronic duo who formed way back in 2005 and whose songs are up-beat although vocally very monotone and rigid, and take you back to the 1980’s where electronic music was in its very early form.

Impacted by the band DAF (Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft) and the punk movement which is clear in their recordings – it’s just simple old school EBM that works!

The band have released five albums not including Wir Bitten Zum Tanzen and they all run along the same vein (apart from Muskeln und Kusse, which was a bit more aggressive) as monotone and minimalistic, but you know the saying ‘less is more’ and these tracks certainly have a certain je ne sais quoi about them.

Sonntag ist Krieg ... Sunday is War

Bubbling with juicy rhythms this is one fine dance track that I should imagine would be good played live to an audience of feverish cyber freaks, or punks! I love the xylophone sound amid the heavy rumbling synth it’s just pure magic!

Ich Komm zu Dir ... I Come to You

Another bristling track that offers a simple flow of keyboard and non-monotone vocal. A very energetic swathe that will have the furry boot covers on and have you dancing around the room in minutes!

Eure Mütter sind Väter ... Your Mothers are Fathers

This is a little harsher than the previous two tracks which are more than welcome. Harsh or not it will still provoke dancing perhaps even more so! The programming on this track just bubbles and explodes.

“To say less is more actually means more on this eight track album its simple electronic beats just suck you further into their wild world of EBM done the old school way. No frills just good old EBM done right!”

Halt Mich ... Stop Me

Vocally stronger although still containing that monotone sound amid a rumble of fascinating rhythms and beats.

Stiefel bis zum Knie ... Boots to the Knee

A slower and more precise track that pays attention to detail... as the band throw in the high pitched xylophone noises again, and like a good meal it just adds the finishing touches to a good but short track.

Die Schiessen ... The Shooting

Interesting rhythms and monotone tempos bring in a faster vocal that turns up the heat somewhat. I say another good dance track!

Komm Zeig´s Mir (Roh Variante) ... Come Show Me – Raw Version

Hypnotic and monotone but this is what makes this track nice and raw. Its repetitive grooves are special, mesmerising even. Harsh, sharp and clearly another favourite track from the album.

Glücklich & Schön (Roh Variante) ... Happy and Beautiful – Raw Version

Very defined with stark rhythms that are bulging with energy, fast and regimented with superb vocal accompaniment and yes another favourite! This is one badass track for sure!

To Sum up:

To say less is more actually means more on this eight track album its simple electronic beats just suck you further into their wild world of EBM done the old school way. No frills just good old EBM done right!

My only gripe is that some of the tracks do sound very similar to each other give or take a few beats, and not long tracks being just over two minutes, but if it gets you up and dancing then it can’t be all bad!

8½/10
