From the start of the album it is clear that the band have gone though a change. Where their debut was a reflection on their members' minds and came as more of an art form for the most part, this 3rd album by the NY stronghold is unobstructed by the static and odd abstract that they have become famous for Worshiphas more of a fun vibe, with its humble and short beginning of “Alone”, where the lyrics are crisp and uncluttered, to the sure fire hit 'Fear', that starts with a buzzing and then leaps into gear like a post punk classic which is sure to be a live favorite. Other stand out songs include “You Are the One”, with its catchy beat and ironically lamentful lyrics, “Why I Can't cry Anymore”, that harks back to their roots, and “Mind Control”with its screams, its' electric shock feel and almost Choen-like vocals. The albums only downfall is at certain points in the release the songs sound rushed. Slight mix ups in the live drums make certain tracks sound more like demos, but next to the mass of stand-out songs, in total, this is a good demonstration that the band are moving forward and in the last year have grown musically and in experiences in their lives, branching into remixes and more covers to shake a stick at, A Place to Bury Strangers have shown that their sound hasn't grown old and that they still have a lot to offer.
